How DELFO works
Artificial intelligence assists. The thinking remains the student's.
DELFO is a digital educational assistant designed to help students think, understand and arrive at their own conclusions.
It doesn't work like a chatbot that simply answers questions.
The teacher defines what they want to teach and which mental activity they want to promote. DELFO guides the student throughout that journey, offering only the necessary help.
The teacher designs the experience
Creating an activity requires four simple decisions.
First, the teacher defines what their pupils are going to work on and what the learning objective is.
Then set out what you want to happen in the student's mind.
Then select the mental journey you wish to stimulate: observing, comparing, reasoning, discerning, reflecting or other intellectual activities.
Finally, decide how much support DELFO should offer.
Before publishing the activity, you can test it personally as if you were a student and make any adjustments you deem necessary.
The student receives an activity, not a chatbot
The student accesses via a link, code or QR code.
DELFO begins by briefly introducing the topic, the purpose, and the task it will perform.
From there, they accompany them through questions, observations and graded assistance. If they encounter a difficulty,
DELFO can help you to observe better, check a claim, compare possibilities, substantiate an answer or uncover a contradiction. It does not aim to think for you. It aims to help you think better.
Assistance decreases as autonomy increases
DELFO adapts its intervention to the student's progress.
It can offer greater support when there is a difficulty and reduce it when it verifies that the student can continue by themselves.
The objective is not to maintain a long conversation with artificial intelligence.
The aim is for the student to need less and less help to understand, reason and decide.
The teacher can observe how they learned
From their dashboard, the teacher can review the completed activities and understand how the process unfolded.
You can not only observe what conclusion the student came to.
It can also be approached in a way that is pedagogically much more valuable: how it was arrived at.
An artificial intelligence subservient to education
At DELFO, technology does not decide what the pupil should learn.
The teacher establishes the pedagogical intent. The system determines what type of intervention is appropriate.
Artificial intelligence helps to express and contextualise it during the conversation.
Thus, AI ceases to be merely a response machine and can become a tool for developing intellectual autonomy.
Try DELFO
The best way to understand how it works is to try out an activity. You can access the Teacher Panel, create an activity and personally test the experience before using it with your pupils.
